VNCHelper ini remodel to the new version
Thu Oct 17, 2024 7:15 am
Hi guys, I still have the old version where the second unfolding didn't work. I would now like to update the old ini to the new version so that it is clearer. But I don't really know if all the functions will still be there and how it will work. Do you have an idea or a template where all the commands that can be used in the ini are listed and which icons there are, for example?
This is my old ini, but now I want it to be the case that when you click on Team you only see Luca and Hans and when you click on the respective name you get the individual functions that I have built in. Can it even work like this? Thanks in advance.
- Code:
<X>246<Y>31<BROWSER>c:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe<RDPX>1024<RPDY>768<END>
<ITEM> Team<HOST><ICON>42<COL>16772292

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking here - and that's extra confused by my not having used that app in many years. Since I last used it, I re-wrote it completely for one place of work, and the since then have written yet another similar app when I changed jobs. I've just run it to check that your ini looks OK (it does) and boy does it look horrible in 2024
I think you want to have multiple-level menus, so that you only ever have one item at the top (Team) and then two menu items under that (Luca and Hans), and then for each of those to have commands. That's only possible by setting them to be a basic "Windows" template. if you want custom commands, then the menu needs to be two-level, not three level:
This sets the three level menus, but has little opportunity for adding custom command.
VNCHelper was never very capable - I'd love to help you move to use something better?

Thanks for the Reply Tom
What would be a better option to vnc Helper that would solve my problem?
The helper is great, but it is slowly becoming confusing.
But I still need all the helper's functions if I switch.

Hmm, well I'm not sure I know of many apps (I trialled RoyalTS for a while but it wasn't right for me) which will act as a replacement for VNCHelper. What is it you want to do - what would the ideal app look like? A small window, or a large one? What would it show, and what would happen when you click things, or menus?

So it should only be a small window like the helper, only in the third menu there should be more command options. For example, when I am under Hans I want to start an RDP or a VNC but unfortunately that cannot be integrated into the helper. So the program should be able to start RDP, start TeamViewer sessions and be able to run links and programs. The helper does all of that perfectly, but it is slowly becoming too confusing due to too much information and team members.
Here are a few examples:
That's the old Version how it looks now
and this is what it should look like
In the code you can also see what the program has to do.

Hi there,
Like I said I'd really like to help get you off that old code - it's ancient now and it's much faster and easier to develop in C#.
I've created this: https://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/ll01.zip
It's very basic, and is meant more as a way for you to look and see whether this approach will work. The data is in the .db file, and is roughly copied from your settings above - type to search, and then click an item in the list which appears. The buttons don't do anything, but could be used to add a host or configure the data.
I know for sure it's not what you're looking for, but it's a first step towards writing you something which works just how you'd like.
You might be better off sending me an email to carry on this work if you'd like me to write you an app, than posting on the forum though?!

Hold on, I had a better idea for how it should work, which will better mirror what you do at the moment. Give me a bit to finish a second try and I'll post again...

I've reworked the app as I was thinking - it's the same download, but I've included ll02.exe in it as well.
This has a completely hierarchical menu system - you can have as many sub menus as you like.
This build doesn't actually execute anything, just shows message boxes, and although you can fully edit the data in the SQLITE database (use the DB Browser app you can download to do that), the UI in the app is only partially done. The UI is always time consuming, so I wanted to check you'd find this approach useful before I went any further.
Let me know..
