Mon Dec 20, 2021 11:41 pm
DESPERATE: STICKIES FTP with File Download Counter.
There are a lot of Stickies Fans to help you Monitor the FTP.
DropBox, Bitly*, Goo.gl, APIs, etc. = Difficult, Slow, Intrusive, Exploitive, Cryptic, Restricted use, etc.
Thanks
* Bitly does not sell any User Information but Restricted use via AdFly. (AdFly by others)

I'm not sure I understand what you're looking for? A programmatic way of getting download information?

All I want to do is Upload files about and for Stickies and allow others to download them showing how many of each of my uploaded files was Downloaded.
I envision something like:
A FTP click somewhere on the Zhorn-Stickies part Site
Members who have created a Stickie(s) can Upload Files to there folder for others to download, and have the number of Downloads counted for each specific File Downloaded.
I and other Stickie making members would use this for things like:
Downloading of Preliminary Stickies for Beta-Testing of Stickies prior to posting.
Excel files involving Stickies building.
All my old REV-C FF&F 123 when I upload REV-D for Posting.
All my old REV-C FF&F 123 Docs when I update to REV-D.
Tools that I use to make Stickies for others. (Free to distribute.)
Etc.
And is important to know how many of each file was Downloaded.
Here are two examples of Free FTPs.
FileZilla Features
WinSCP FTP COUNTERS (FileZilla SHOULD HAVE SIMILAR)
There should be a specific-file download counter in there somewhere.
Thanks

Both FileZilla and WinSCP are FTP clients. They're apps which you install on your computer which allow you to access FTP servers.
The server is a different software product which runs on an always-on computer, somewhere in the cloud. It grants access to some storage, using the FTP protocol - or SFTP these days.
The two are quite different, in that the latter requires a computer to always be running, listening for connections, maintaining a list of users, and which has some storage space available to those users. As you'll appreciate, all of those things cost money.
There are probably free services which do this (which will likely be advertising based), or a quick Google found this: https://medium.com/@biancalorenpadilla/sftp-google-cloud-storage-d559fd16e074 - quite complex for non-IT people.
Part of running an SFTP server is policing what is uploaded. Sadly there are those in the world who will take advantage of an unchecked file transfer server, and the person responsible for providing it could find themselves with undesirable content on their server. That's also why the Stickies web site does not have a feature for the automatic uploading of content. It's increasingly rare that skins are submitted, and by curating them myself it keeps the process safe, and it means I don't need to spend time writing an upload portal.

It is strange that Stickies is not the Number-One-Program.
You nailed-it with the Server-SFTP.
I'm trying to get a FTP in the Zhorn-Website and I will get back to our discussion on the Server-SFTP a little later.
The timing for the FTP has rolled-into the time I need right now to get FF&F 0 & 1 REV-D ready for post. I need to update the Master-Pattern to match the As-Builts, then do the Production-Runs for FF&F 0 & 1 REV-D, then post. This won't take months and could zing-out pretty quick as I only need to do 16 and rename 16 more. (Up-Dating the Master-Pattern to match the As-Builts is the Wild-Card on timing.)
Right now if you have anyway to fix the anomalies in Skinner before I am ready to Post FF&F 0 & 1 REV-D will save a REV latter.
Don't worry about "increasingly rare that skins are submitted, a turn-around is happing as we speak, not just FF&F.
Thanks
